On June 6th,1944 General Dempseys troops of the British Expeditionary Force composed by the 3rd and 50th English Division and by the Canadian 3rd Division landed on the beaches of Normandy codenamed Sword Juno and Gold. The D-Day had thus come. The British Expeditionary Force was to land and quickly take over the town of Caen. Americans landing at Omaha and Utha in the West were to seize control of the Cotenin peninsula and the Cherbourg port.
